Meatstock Sydney 2025: Smoke, Strength & Sound Collide

Sydney came alive with the scent of BBQ, the sound of thundering hooves, and the roar of the crowd as Meatstock 2025 rolled into town – and it did not disappoint.

Across a massive weekend packed with smoked meats, butcher battles, bull riding, live music, and an impressive lineup of stallholders, this year’s festival served up the perfect plate of entertainment for carnivores, cowboys, and curious foodies alike.

Whether you came for the flavour, the fire, or the fierce competition – here’s what went down.

The Butcher Wars: Where Blades Meet Brilliance

One of Meatstock’s most intense spectacles was the Butcher Wars, where elite butchers from across Australia and beyond took the stage to prove who could break down a carcass with speed, precision, and showmanship.

Crowds were transfixed by the rhythm of cleavers, the flash of steel, and the artistry that turns whole cuts into perfect portions. It was a masterclass in skill – fast, fierce, and incredibly satisfying to watch.

And the winners of Meatstock Sydney’s Butcher Wars 2025 are…

1st Place: Chris Tuckwood – @prydemeats
2nd Place: Wade Thompson – Meat Talk Butchers
3rd Place: Luke Thomas – Millers Gourmet Meats

Young Butcher Award:
Nathan Walker – @snow.and.sons

Massive congrats to all the competitors. You did the industry proud—your shops, your families, and yourselves. What a show of skill, speed, and serious blade work. Absolute legends!

Smoked Meats Competition: Pitmasters Turn Up the Heat

Nothing says Meatstock like the rich aroma of low and slow BBQ. This year’s Smoked Meats Competition brought together pitmasters from every corner of the country, all vying for the title of smoke king (or queen). Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and even lamb were judged for tenderness, flavour, bark, and balance. It was a carnivore’s dream come true – with plenty of tastings if you were lucky (or persuasive). My video recap of this year’s smoke zone includes some insider tips on wood selection and rubs from award-winning teams.

PBR Bull Riding: 8 Seconds of Glory

Professional Bull Riding (PBR) brought rodeo energy to Meatstock in a major way. These athletes weren’t just riding bulls – they were riding beasts, with names and reputations as fierce as their horns.

It was a dust-flying, adrenaline-pumping showdown between human grit and raw animal power. The crowd held its breath every time the gate opened, and the cowboys delivered – again and again.

Catch the full ride highlights (and a few near misses) on the PBR website.

It was a weekend of grit, guts, and serious hang time in the PBR arena at Meatstock Sydney 2025. The bulls didn’t make it easy, but a few cowboys rose above the chaos and claimed the podium.

1st Place: Macaulie Leather – 259 pts – $6,500
2nd Place: Caiden Sandilands – 255.5 pts – $4,700
3rd Place: Romario Leite – 169.5 pts – $3,200

Massive shoutout to these guns for laying it all on the line. The crowd went off, the bulls were rank, and the atmosphere was electric. That’s what PBR’s all about—raw talent, high stakes, and unmatched adrenaline.

Respect, boys. You earned every dollar and every cheer.

Strongman & Strongwoman Competition: Strength Beyond the Smoke

Held in a dedicated arena adjacent to the main festival, the Strongman & Strongwoman competition added a powerful edge to the weekend. Separate from the rest of the Meatstock activities but still part of the overall experience, this was a raw display of human power.

Athletes hauled massive weights, flipped tyres the size of cars, carried logs, and faced brutal yoke walks – cheered on by a growing crowd of awe-struck fans.

This wasn’t just a show – it was a battle of pure strength and mental grit.

Stallholders & BBQ Culture: From Knives to Nachos

Meatstock wouldn’t be complete without its incredible stallholder community – and 2025 brought the goods. It was a paradise of:

Custom smokers and BBQ rigs

Handmade knives and tools of the trade

Craft beer, bourbon, and BBQ sauces from around the world

BBQ street eats from brisket burgers to loaded fries, smoked wings, and meat donuts (yes, meat donuts)

It was impossible to walk 10 steps without wanting to taste something new or buy a bottle of secret-recipe hot sauce.

Live Music: The Soundtrack of the Smoke

When the sun went down, the party turned up. Bliss N Eso lit up the stage with a massive headline performance, bringing high-energy beats and a wild crowd that danced into the night.

Across the weekend, a rotating lineup of Aussie talent kept the vibes flowing with everything from roots rock to hip hop and blues. Music was the heartbeat of the festival, echoing through the smoke and spice.

The Jack Daniel’s live stage hosted an eclectic mix of artists:

Friday: Bliss n Eso, Illy, Hot Potato Band, Little Green

Saturday: Furnace & The Fundamentals, 19-Twenty, Andy Golledge Band, The Beefs, Large Mirage, Chaperone, The Sweet Jelly Rolls

Sunday: Bullhorn, Frank Sultana, Minnie Marks, Chaperone, Alvarez & Rollan

The diverse lineup ensured continuous entertainment, complementing the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.

Meatstock Magic – More Than Just Meat, Beyond the BBQ

Meatstock offered more than just food and music:

Better Beer Dad Bod Contest: A fun-filled competition celebrating all body types.

Beard and Mo Wars: Showcasing impressive facial hair from participants nationwide.

Rod+Custom Rumble: A display of classic and custom vehicles, delighting car enthusiasts.

Sausage Sizzle Throwdown: A battle for the best sausage sizzle creation.

These events added layers of enjoyment, making Meatstock a comprehensive cultural experience.

At its heart, Meatstock is about community. It’s where passion meets plate, where butchers share tips with home cooks, where strongmen inspire kids, and where BBQ brings everyone together.

We were lucky enough to capture some unforgettable moments on film and camera. – from backstage stories to unexpected laughs and delicious discoveries.

Meatstock Sydney 2025 was one for the books – a fire-fuelled, flavour-packed weekend where the strongest, smokiest, and loudest came to play. See you next year… and come hungry.
