How To Boil Eggs Perfectly

Correctly boiling an egg is a really neat skill to have. Strangely enough it seems to be one which many people struggle with, especially beginner cooks.

For all those beginners out there (or anyone else), don’t let this hold you back from trying new recipes, and getting your hands dirty (so to speak).

So; how long do you need to boil your egg to get just the right yolk? Follow our foolproof steps below and you’ll crack the code every time.

For Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs

Step 1:

If your eggs are refrigerated, bring your eggs to room temperature before boiling. If the eggs are too cold, the shells may crack during cooking.

Step 2:

Place the eggs in a saucepan of cold water. Place the pan over high heat. Bring the water to the boil and gently stir the eggs constantly in a clockwise direction. This stirring movement of the water helps to centre the egg yolks.

Step 3:

Boil the eggs for 4 minutes and then immediately run under cold water to stop the cooking process. Remove the now cold eggs from the water and peel.

For Perfect Soft Boiled Eggs

Step 1:

Once again, if refrigerated, bring your eggs to room temperature before boiling. If the eggs are too cold, the shells may crack during cooking.

Step 2:

Place the eggs in a saucepan of cold water. Place the pan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer, whilst gently stirring the eggs constantly in a clockwise direction. The movement of the water helps to centre the egg yolks.

Step 3:

Simmer the eggs for 4 minutes for perfect soft-boiled eggs. Use a slotted spoon to remove the egg from the water. Transfer to an egg cup and serve immediately.

Now that you know this simple method, it really is time to get cracking…
